The Copenhagen Trial Unit (CTU) hosts the Editorial Team Office of The Cochrane Hepato-Biliary Group (CHBG). The CHBG is one of the 56 systematic review groups, each belonging to one of the eight Review Networks. The CHBG is part of the Cochrane Abdomen and Endocrine Network. The CHBG editorial team staff works with more than 2000 people from about 130 countries. People contribute either as review authors, peer reviewers, translators, handsearchers, consumers, editors, statisticians, or simply follow the progress and use the CHBG products. The CHBG editorial team office and CHBG editors work with authors from registration of the review title to further development of their protocol and systematic review as well as its subsequent updates and publication in The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) on The Cochrane Library (CLib). Cochrane reviews should be updated every two years or as soon as new evidence is published. CHBG authors receive help with the design of search strategies for literature databases from The CHBG. The CHBG maintains a CHBG Controlled Trials Register that is published in the Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), part of The Cochrane Library. CENTRAL is freely available to Cochrane members via the Cochrane Register of Studies Online (CRSO). The CHBG conducts systematic reviews of interventions (prevention and treatment), diagnostic test accuracy, and overview of reviews. In the future, we will also focus on prognostic systematic reviews. All CHBG protocols and reviews undergo external peer reviewing, multiple review checks, and editorial approval before publication. To reach a broader public, The CHBG also encourages sister publications of CHBG reviews in various journals. However, there are some central Cochrane rules that need to be considered before sending in one’s manuscript to a paper journal (see Cochrane publishing policy).

For current status of the CHBG work as well as for earlier output and events, people are invited to visit The CHBG website. By the end of December 2020, there were 380 CHBG protocols of systematic reviews and 237 CHBG systematic reviews published in The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (The Cochrane Library).

People who wish to contribute in any way to the work of The CHBG or to the work of any other Cochrane group may join Cochrane for free. Archie is the Cochrane Collaboration's central server for managing documents and contacts details. Review Manager (RevMan) is the Cochrane Collaboration’s software used for preparingCochrane Reviews. RevMan Web is now the recommended review-writing software for Cochrane intervention reviews and flexible reviews. Covidence is the primary screening and data extraction tool for Cochrane authors conducting standard intervention reviews. Covidence is tailored to Cochrane methods. The mentioned software is designed to enable contributors to Cochrane to produce systematic reviews of the evidence of the effects of healthcare and deliver these for publication in The Cochrane Library.

The CHBG together with The CTU have developed software for Trials Sequential Analysis (the TSA software). TSA controls the risks of random errors due to sparse data and repetitive analyses of data in cumulative meta-analyses. Cochrane authors are encouraged to use TSA in their reviews to assess the robustness of data in review meta-analyses (Jakobsen JC et al. 2014 and Chapter 22 in the Cochrane Handbook). One can obtain support in using TSA by contacting The CTU. TSA software is regularly updated and its functionalities improved.

The CHBG refers to Cochrane Denmark, an independent research organisation, part of Cochrane, with main responsibilities of training review authors from the Nordic region.
